Recruitment for IDIA Immersion Seminar in New Media Arts - Beyond the Surface
CALL FOR PARTICIPATION - We are recruiting students to participate in our Immersion Seminar in New Media Arts, exploring innovative touch surface technologies and supported by the Provost’s Immersive Learning Initiative. The interdisciplinary project will engage students and faculty in a major interactive and spatial redesign of the Decorative Arts Gallery at the Ball State University Museum of Art. We are looking for skilled students that would thrive in an intensive, interdisciplinary, emerging media learning experience.

Participation in this innovative endeavor will provide students an exemplary portfolio project as well as relevant experience in the professional contexts in which they will likely practice - preparing them for the challenges of team-based professional practice. This seminar is team taught by John Fillwalk, Director IDIA; Paul Gestwicki, Computer Science and Jesse Allison, IDIA Research Specialist.

This mixed graduate and undergraduate digital studio will connect interactive interfaces and mobile devices, investigating the intersection of the arts and emerging technology. In addition to reinterpreting the physical layout of works on display, students will develop a custom touch-based interface to navigate the collection, integrating both Microsoft Surface™ and Apple iPod™ Touch/iPhone™ technologies. This semester-long seminar will explore human-computer interface and hybrid reality design projects. Students can register for 3, 6 or 9 undergraduate and graduate credits - based on project involvement.
