Who is IDIA Lab?

IDIA Lab is the Institute for Digital Intermedia Arts at Ball State University. We are a non-profit research center, specializing in the creation of virtual worlds for healthcare, occupational training, and digital humanities.

What data do we collect?

The majority of our applications do not collect data at all. Typically, a user can enter their name for identification purposes only that expires once they exit the simulation. Sometimes, a client will want to track what the user does while in the simulation. For example, an instructor may want to grade students on how they completed required tasks. In those cases, we will collect discrete event data tied to the name the user entered.

Where do we store this data?

IDIA Lab does not store any sensitive information on its own servers. In the rare case that we require proper authentication, we have used Google Firebase. Discrete event data is typically submitted to a Google Analytics profile. Often, clients will just opt to collect non-sensitive data in a locally generated TXT file.

What do we do with this data?

IDIA Lab does not and will not sell your data to advertisers. Our clients use this data for research, analysis, and evaluation purposes.
